I hope everyone had a spectacular day! I didn't really...
I did get to sleep in, which is always a good thing. Then I just sat around until about 5 when I decided to go to wal-mart to pick up some snacks and then to the bbq place to grab a couple sandwiches for dinner. Steven and I ate dinner and then he immediately retreated to his room to watch the Cubs. I yanked him out at 8:30 (it was only the 5th inning) to drive to get some ice cream and then to the location of the fireworks - the football stadium. Our plan was to drive to the top of the parking garage closest to the spot and watch from there. Well... the cops had it blocked off. We parked and walked to the side, but the view was awful. So we found the elevator and rode down the 6 floors to find a spot on the ground.
We located a nice dry, grassy area - since we didn't have anything to sit on. After waiting 30 minutes for them to start, they were not shot off from where we, or most of the crowd, thought they would be. We moved to a better spot, and watched from there. There were 3 highly annoying children directly behind us. (Don't get me wrong, I usually love kids, but when everyone else is silent and three tiny voices start yelling, it can get to ya)
The show was lame, or maybe we just have high standards. It lasted 20 minutes at best, and was so low in the sky that the trees sometimes blocked half of it.
When we got home some neighbors were shooting off good ones, so we sat in the driveway and watched those. Bonus: the sky was so clear we could see an amazing amount of stars.
I didn't get any pictures, but I don't think they would have been worth sharing anyway.
All I can say, is maybe next year will be better, wherever we are.
