Getting Fit - Or Trying To

I started my new workout schedule this past week. I am starting with twice a week and once Steven starts going (after he finishes a huge project that is keeping him late at work) I will go a third day.

I am going on Tuesday and Thursday with my friend Brittany. We met sophomore year in our sign language class. [For those who don't know, I took 4 years of sign language.] Going with some one else really helps me go - I have to meet my friend, so I have no choice but to go. Both days we rode stationary bikes for 30 minutes and then walked a mile on the suspended track. We are going to start swimming laps too.

On Mondays, when I start with Steven, we are going to do a combination of cardio and weight training. It has been years since I picked up a free-weight, and I used to be really strong. I was a dancer, and I was in great shape. And now that my clothes are getting tighter, I am determined to lose the 10 pounds I have gained this past year or so.

I have a deal with myself. After I work out for a certain number of hours I get to reward myself with a massage. I have never had one before, and I really want one.

MizzouRec was named the best University Rec Center. This is where I jog, ride the bike, or use that god-awful stair step machine:


There are at least 11 flat screen TVs - although the only sound you hear is the music that they play with the music videos on ZouTV. Some of the machines even have their own TV and headphone jack:

There are so many awesome things at our Rec Center, I could write a post for each thing. A short list would be: lazy river, vortex, steam room, sauna, outdoor pool, 30 person hot tub, many many basketball courts, rock climbing wall, pump room (weights), studios for dance and aerobic classes, tanning salon, massage place, juice and snack bar, racquetball rooms, computer area, awesome locker rooms, and much more.

And judging by the number of people that go there everyday - they have made their money back. Sometimes there is a 15-30 minute wait to use a treadmill. Crazy.
