For Steven's birthday, we went to Bleu in downtown Columbia. We had heard rumors about a free steak dinner for the birthday boy (or girl). And I was excited to get my favorite dessert, essentially funnel cake strips with lemon creme and fresh berries. Yum!
I got a small glass of cabernet sauvignon and Steven got a large glass of riesling. We thought the glasses were appropriate for our sizes... since I am 5' 5" and he is 6' 5". : )
We ordered the hummus for a starter, and it was delicious - as usual. For dinner I ordered the filet with herb mashed potatoes and sauteed kale, and Steven got the braised short ribs with mashed potatoes and kale. I also got a side of brussel sprouts... so yummy. My meal was pretty good, my steak was a little over done for my liking, and the kale was kinda soggy. Steven's short ribs were pretty bad. I wanted to complain, but he wouldn't let me. He had to saw the meal off the bone, and what meat he did get off was really fatty.
We waited a good 15 minutes after finishing our meals for our waitress to come back to the table, and we decided to abandon the idea of another drink and dessert. I ended up paying for both our meals, even though I mentioned that it was his birthday twice. We went for frozen yogurt instead.
Not the birthday celebration I was hoping for... but I think he had a decent time. I'll have to make it up to him with a dinner at a different place. I almost called the next day to complain, but I knew they wouldn't do anything except roll their eyes and say sorry. As much as I am still craving that dessert, I don't think we'll be going back any time soon...
And just so you know, I have a meal planning update coming soon!
