tetanus arm

I thought I would share a quick picture of 'tetanus arm'. I am not that buff... my arm is really swollen. The red area is about four inches across, raised and warm to the touch. And it hurts like hell.

I have called the doctor and they tell me that this is a normal reaction to the tetanus shot. The older you are, the more of an immune system you have, the more antibodies you have trying to fight the virus in the shot. But of course everyone reacts differently. Super awesome!

The first couple of days felt like I had a slight flu thing coming on, but I feel better {minus the arm} now, so I should be able to make some posts for you. : )

{Edited to add:  I've had a few questions asking how long my reaction to the tetanus shot lasted. I honestly do not remember exactly how long, but I think it was a good week before the pain and swelling completely went away. I also had a hard knot in my arm at the injection site that lasted for quite a while, but it is gone now. I'm certainly nervous for the next time I need a tetanus shot, I can't imagine how bad my arm will look then!}

  2. That's horrible! Oh my goodness!

    When I had to get my last tetanus shot I also needed to get two other shots. My poor arms were not thrilled.

  3. I do have to say it looked a lot better today. At least you know to have the benadryl on hand for next time!

  5. Mind looks exactly the same! Had tetanus shot two days ago. How long will it take to go away redness, swelling and soreness?

    1. Hi! I honestly don't remember how long it took... I would guess a good week. And I had a hard knot in the spot where the actual injection was for a long time afterward, but it was not painful.

      Good luck! I know how awful it is!

  8. Mine is the same way. It's been going on for 5 days now and the injection site keeps getting bigger.
