homemade salsa

This was my first time making homemade salsa. I always thought it was a complicated recipe with a bunch of ingredients. When I was visiting my BFF Jessica last weekend, she made salsa. With like 4 ingredients. I simplified it even more. And it is much cheaper than the jarred stuff.

Homemade Salsa
1 can of mild rotel - diced tomatoes and green chilies  {$1.00}
2 cans of mexican rotel - diced tomatoes with cilantro and lime  {$1.00 each}
1 can of diced tomatoes - great value brand, no salt added  {$0.63}
2-3 tablespoons of lime juice  {$0.78 for a bottle}

Dump everything in the blender and blend it. Then eat it with anything you want. I like chips.

It cost $4.41 for the ingredients {technically less than that since I didn't use the whole bottle of lime juice}. And it made more than 2 small jars of tostitos salsa, or more than a jar of pace salsa. You can always use original or hot rotel. I don't really do spicy, so I went with mild.

Like I said, this recipe makes a good amount of salsa, but it's not going to go bad. And it probably won't last that long anyway. It is so good! It tastes very similar to chili's salsa, which happens to be my favorite.

And a side note: I finally found the best time and place in my house to take pictures. I fell in love with my strawberries and vanilla sugar pictures and took these in the same place. Right by the back door in the kitchen, on my little bench, in the morning hours. I go outside when I can, but winter equals cold and brown grass. The kitchen will do for now! I keep searching for things I can photograph there. :)

Have you ever made your own salsa? What about taking photos - do you have a favorite location, indoors or out?

xoxo, christa

  1. No, I never tried to make my own salsa. But yours looks delicious and this just brought me to an idea. My birthday is at the end of the month, so maybe instead of making the usual salads I should try out this salsa! As far as I can remember none of my friends did this. Then I'll definetly share some pictures...
    And no, I don't have a favourite place for taking pictures. Maybe I should search for a good place, too.
    Have a wonderful Sunday! xo.

  2. I Love making homemade salsa, I think it tastes so much better than buying a jar of it in the stores.

    My favorite salsa to make is pico de gallo. I chop finely chop up tomatoes, onions, a little bit of jalepeno, (sometimes add some pineaple) & lime juice. YUMM!

  3. Yum! I make my own salsa using Tuppeware's chipotle seasoning (can of Rotel diced tomatoes with green chilies, chipotle seasoning, half an onion, and a bit of garlic)! :)

  5. That looks yummy! I recently posted a black bean salsa recipe with roma tomatoes, black beans, corn, fresh cilantro, onions and a balsamic vinaigrette. I could eat that stuff for breakfast, seriously!

    I prefer natural light and I find my photos turn out best when it's slightly overcast out. :)
