One of my coworkers introduced me to this dish - it is so quick and easy, perfect for a busy night! We have quite a few of those around here.
And it's one of those flexible recipes, you can make it with what you have on hand. This is one of our favorite pasta dishes, because it's more than just a plate of spaghetti. :)
Here is how I usually make it:
1 lb lean ground turkey, browned and drained
1 16 oz jar of tomato sauce, which ever kind you prefer
1 25 oz bag of frozen cheese filled ravioli
1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
6 slices of provolone cheese
After the ground turkey is browned and drained, add the tomato sauce to the skillet and let it heat through. While that's working, cook the ravioli according to the package instructions.
In a 9x13 baking dish, spread some of the meat sauce on the bottom of the pan to prevent the ravioli from sticking. Add half of the pasta to the baking dish, add some more sauce and gently mix. Sprinkle half of the shredded cheese on top. Put the remaining pasta into the pan with the sauce and mix gently, then pour into the baking dish. Sprinkle the remaining shredded cheese and lay the provolone slices on top. Bake at 350* for about 20 minutes, or until the cheese and sauce is bubbly.
Serve with a salad and some garlic bread. Enjoy!
Like I mentioned, you can do it your own way! I have done it with plain sauce and beef filled ravioli, or half cheese half beef ravioli with the same ground turkey sauce. Or you could take it totally vegetarian and add some veggies in to the sauce. But one things for sure - it is way easier than lasagna!
