gettin' in shape

Since graduating college, my activity level has dropped. I used to walk miles a day all over campus. And now I sit at a desk all day. I attempted to do the couch to 5k workout... but I'm not a runner, I never have been. I've been eating healthier and snacking less, but if you don't exercise, that flub still hangs around.

So over the summer I enrolled in a Monday evening tap class. It was a bit expensive, but I really enjoyed it and looked forward to going every week. The class was small and we were all friendly toward each other. The instructor kept us going and I left schweaty with sore legs!

Tap was only 6 weeks and there was a big break until the fall classes, so I started searching for something else. I found a reasonably priced zumba class on Tuesday nights offered on by the city parks & rec department, so I signed up! I've now done 12 weeks of zumba and have signed up for another 6 weeks. I'm always a little sore the day after zumba - it really targets your core and legs!

And then Steven and I signed up for a month of boot camp thanks to a groupon deal. 4 nights a week of hell. I always have a hard time getting out the door, I hate the trainer when he makes us do side planks for 90 seconds, or mountain climbers for a minute, but I feel great after it's over. One of the more fun activities he has us doing is called 'sleds.' We have to pull that HUGE tire, walking backwards, down the parking lot. It's fun because we always motivate each other to keep going. My body has been sore since the day we started.

So that's where I've been this week - dying a painful exercise death instead of keeping up with all of you. I'm just trying to stay healthy and fit so I'll be around to blog! ;)

What do you do for exercise? Are you a runner? To you belong to a gym?

xoxo, christa

  1. I'm right there with ya on the after college thing! I used to walk to class everday, talk fitness classes & also go to the gym with friends! Now, not so much :( But when I do make time to work-out I love spin classes! They're so hard, but so good for your legs!

  3. Getting older sucks and sitting at a desk all day is one of the reasons why. :) I've totally fallen into the same rut - I've blamed it on the so-called "newly-wed 9", too. Somehow I didn't fall to the freshman 15, but did to that.

And silly me for thinking that cutitng soda and snacks, walking a little more, and eating a little healthier would help. I totally need hard-core exercise in there to really make it work.

Cost and time are my two big things...that tap class sounds awesome though. You're making me sore though with boot camp - 4 nights?!?!

    Keep it up! Woot!

  4. Wow... I'm so impressed! Way to take the initiative :). I took tap dance in college for my PE credit - I miss it! I've never tried zumba or anything "hard core". I get up early to do a combo of pilates and yoga in front of the TV. It works for me :)
