washi tape art

I love washi tape. I love it so much that it sits on my craft table and I stare at it - wanting to use it on everything, but they have to be worthy things. I'm not just going to slap washi tape on anything!

So I decided to use the washi tape as the focal point. To create something showing off all the pretty tape sitting in my craft room. :) I picked out a color scheme, gathered some supplies and set to work.

I got a small wood plaque {about 5x5 inches} at Hobby Lobby for $1.33 and painted it white. Then I tore strips of tape and stuck them down on some wax paper. I cut the shape I wanted - scallops - and decided on a pattern.

I used an uncut piece of tape to start off at the bottom, wrapping it around the edges, then began adding the scalloped pieces.

I kept layering, cutting the tape as I needed it so I didn't waste any. I continued the same pattern all the way up to the top, but you can change it up any way you want.

All done! While it's pretty and completely fine as is, I'm thinking about layering a small square picture or quote on top. I can change it or remove it whenever I want. And if you're worried about the tape peeling, you can always mod podge over the whole thing.

To hang it on the wall, you can either drill a small hole or two at an upward angle for the nail(s) to rest in, add a sawtooth picture frame hanger to the back, or use 3M strips - the plaque is light enough. You could also use a small canvas for this project, but the wood plaque was much more budget friendly.

So fun and simple! And it's easy to create a color scheme to match any room or even party decor.

See Vanessa CraftDo you have any washi tape-worthy projects? ;)
